    (it’s always busy)!

    I represent Mr.Hendrik Tiitson & Ms.Jelizaveta Salnikova, who could’t fly crom Liberia Airport (Costa-Rica) 14.02.2022 due-to overbooking.

  • Sergei SALNIKOV

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Re: reservation UCQHYK

We made a booking on the 19th of January for your flight from Liberia, Costa Rica to Berlin, Germany for the 14th of february for 2 persons Hendrik Tiitson and Jelizaveta Salnikova. Our confirmation number was UCQHYK. KLM should have taken us to Amsterdam and after that to Berlin from where we had another airline ticket to Tallinn.

The first flight departure was on the 14th of february at 18:05. We made all the check-ins and customs and then around 18 oā€™clock when we were already at the boarding gate we received the information that the flight was overbooked. There were more than 30 people that were denied boarding, I will add a photo as an attachment of the people who were unable to board because of your mistake and there were many more people behind me that were in the same situation.

There was a total lack of communication and information about what is going to happen to us, where we are going and what will happen to our flights. We waited for nearly 2 hours before we received information that we will be accommodated in a hotel for the night but no more information regarding our flights whatsoever.

As we were eager to know how we will reach our home we tried to contact KLM by ourselves because there was no one at the airport explaining anything about the further status. As we didnā€™t have local sim cards we tried to contact You through the Internet. We found a form of compensation for ā€ždenied boardingā€œ case. We sent it in hope to receive any information regarding compensation for our flights that were canceled and also for the ones that we couldnā€™t reach because of the previous reason.

On the 15th of february at 8.30 in the morning we contacted KLM Royal Dutch Airlines via whatsapp regarding the flight status as we still had no information and we wanted to inform you that our actual final destination is Tallinn. To which your agent answered and I quote:ā€œYou may visit my colleagues at the airport directly so they can assist you further.ā€œ The problem is that there were no colleagues at the airport and neither us nor the hotel where we were staying could reach them.

After that we spent 3 hours until 12 oā€™clock trying to solve this situation and get some information. We called both dutch department of KLM and the Estonian department of KLM but both of them answered that they can make no changes to our booking because their colleagues at the Liberia airport are responsible for making changes to this booking. Then we tried to reach your colleagues at the airport but no one still answered any calls.

By afternoon we received a letter that someone had booked new flights for us from Liberia to Amsterdam and Berlin on the 16th of february at 18.05. As we would have had nothing to do in that final destination on that day because there were no further flights to our country we were still concerned how we would get home. And by the evening we still couldnā€™t reach anyone responsible for the booking. But never declared we wouldnā€™t take that flight as Berlin would still be closer to our country than Costa Rica.

The next morning on the 16th of february we received an automatic e-mail from Pankaj Mishra from Air France KLM Customer Care assistance that our refund application has been submitted and 6.16 AM we received and another email (Request ID: 122-C96C5A1BFCC3) from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (no more contact info) that our tickets are canceled and refunded under the refund reason ā€žcancellation 24hā€œ to which we even couldnā€™t apply for because according to the information on your official page we can cancel our booking 24 hours after booking but we had booked our flight 26 days ago! So we have no idea why and how someone from your company made the conclusion to cancel our tickets based on 24h policy if we had never expressed any interest in our tickets being canceled.

We received a note under our hotel door saying that there is a transfer waiting for us at 2pm to take us to the Liberia airport for our flight. As we arrived to the airport for the check-in we received information that there are reserved seats for us on the plane but we cannot board because someone has cancelled our tickets and there is nothing they can do to change the booking although another official from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines information center had told us that they are the only ones that could change it. Then we spent another 2 hours on the phone talking to different officials from KLM to solve the situation but they all claimed that they could do nothing about the situation and only directed us from one person to another without providing any assistance at all.

The only advice we got from the airport in the end was just to buy new tickets which we didnā€™t do at the moment. Since then we were left alone in the airport without any further guidance and have no tickets back home.

We are hoping you can solve this problem, cancel the refund we didnā€™t ask for and book us a new flight so we can go home at last.

Hoping for Your quick response on e-mail: [email protected]

    Yours sincerely

    Hendrik Tiitson (mob.ph. +372-56602207)
    Ms.Jelizaveta Salnikova (mob.ph. +372-56379353)
