Please i want to study B.A Aviation Management in iata
Hello,
I bought a ticket to Kigali from a travel agent today. The cost of the ticket was quoted in dollars – US$540. I want to pay in dollars, but the agent insisted that per IATA rules, I had to pay in Ghana cedis based on IATA’s own exchange rate of GHS10.35 per dollar. Meanwhile, at the local forex bureau, the cedi rate was GHS9. So, for a ticket worth US$540, I had to convert over US$600 before I could pay the cedis equivalent of GHS5,590.
I find that totally unacceptable for two reasons:
1. Why do you quote the ticket price in dollars and yet insist on taking payment in cedis. Why not quote the price in cedis then?
2. Why does IATA have its own cedi-dollar rate, which gravely shortchanges Ghanaians in our own country?
My understanding in that you do not apply the same rule in Nigeria, for instance, where prices are quoted in Naira and payments are made in Naira.
This is unacceptable and I think you really do need to explain why this is the status quo in Ghana.
I am a travel agent and i will need yoyr services urgently. kindly contact me on 0550250143.
