I have tow Issues. Why Air India Tickets to India are So expensive?
And there is no proper connection to domestic flights from New Delhi.
For Example the Flight from San Francisco to New Delhi arrives at 4,30 pm but connection to Bangalore is next day. Why can’t there be an immediate connection to Bangalore so that direct passengers can reach their destination soon

I purchased 2 tickets on a one way flight Air India 171 May 15th from LHR to EWR through EXPEDIA. I paid $1112.24 USD on July 31, 2018 through Expedia which was sent to Air India on that day. At some point Air India canceled that flight but I was not notified. On April 24th when I tried to book my seats by calling Air India I was on hold for 50 mins. I then tried to go to the only Air India site to book my seats and it told my booking ID of SUXMPI was invalid. So I called EXPEDIA to question what was going on and was told the flight was canceled by Air India. I then booked a different flight and EXPEDIA told me they would secure a waiver ID to get my full refund back.
Have they attempted to contact Air India by phone with no success I received an email indicating that ā€œDue to changes by Air India which modify how their reservation system can be accessed, we at Expedia and other travel agencies globally are unable to process your request. We highly suggest that you contact them directly at 1-800-223-7776 and provide your airline confirmation code “YDG2Y” when you call.ā€
So as you can imagine no one answers that number and I am now out my $1112.24 USD. I would kindly appreciate someone contact me to arrange a refund.

    Hi,

I want to know about the reservation details of my flight booking. I am supposed to travel from Newark to Mumbai in a evacuation flight. Today I received the email but have not received the PNR details yet. I had informed embassy earlier to book my ticket in business class where they informed me that Air India will connect with you and check for the preference. However in today’s email from Amy Tewari I have been asked payment for Economy class. Why I have been not asked to me earlier.

I have a huge luggage with me which will not accommodate in Economy class. I would request you to please share the booking details and please change if possible from Economy to business class.

If my spouse and I are citizens of India and my child was born in the US, does my child need an OCI card to board the plane?

Air India will take your money and you will never see it again, even if you do your due diligence and cancel within 24 hours, even if you call them every other day for 2 month, wait on hold for hours, write 20 emails and create 5 escalated cases with their sub standard, rude and good for nothing customer support agents.

All of the above happened to me. I booked a business class ticket and tried to cancel online but the system was down so I called to cancel within 24 hours. But the customer support agent casually said, and I quote “please call back later. The system is undergoing maintenance and I cannot cancel at this time”. That was my first red flag. What kind of an agent cannot cancel even it the user cannot cancel?

So I left an email asking them to cancel within 24 hours.

I called several times after that and I got the same response:

    1. I’d have to pay the $200 cancellation charge because the 24 hours has passed. Otherwise, they said its wise to hold off on cancelling until my escalated case would be reviewed by someone at a higher level (classic Indian bureaucracy).

    2. That the customer agents do not have access to emails because they just dont and only the backend team can see my emails (this was new. I haven’t heard of any other airline that keeps its phone staff and email staff separate).

    3. That I’d get a response within 24 to 48 hours (but didnt). Even if I did, it was always automated or tightly scripted (was I ever talking to a human?).

Exhausted with the constant back and forth and going nowhere for a month but before my flight date, I called them to cancel my booking, agreeing to pay the $200. I was promised that my escalated case would be seen to but it never was.

I left them multiple requests in email, in consumer.com, on their feedback form but talking to these people is like talking to a wall.

If you dont believe me, please go look at airindia reviews on any website or consumer complaint websites and you’ll read all the horror stories. All of them are true.

Save yourself the hassle, please book somewhere else, unless you’re desperate and there are no other flights.

For a change I want to report a POSITIVE experience I had with Air Indiaā€™s rĆ©servation office located on Lexington ave, New York.

I had booked an Air India flight on Expedia from Paris to chennai via Delhi. The layover tƮme in Delhi was just 90 minutes, which is too short to take the COVID-19 at Delhi airport, which is mandatory before u can take a domestic flight in india

I was freaking out and tried calling Air Indiaā€™s call center to book me on a later domestic flight from Delhi to chennai to give me enough time to do the Covid test and get results

Sadly Air Indiaā€™s call center wait time was way too long

I got impatient and went to Air Indiaā€™s New York office. A lovely lady named Halina welcomed me and inquired what my need was. She listened carefully and looked up into her computer system and told me Expedia had made an ā€œillegal reservationā€ because Air Indiaā€™s own reservation would never had allowed me to even make such a reservation with such short layover time in Delhi

But rather than having me call Expedia to change my reservation, Halina kindly offered to make the modification heel self at no charge.

Within 5 minutes I got booked into a later flight from Delhi to chennai, giving me plenty of time to do my Covid test and get result

Halina was super professional and very keen to give me what I wanted which is PEACE of MIND

Anyway, I myself have had bad experiences in the past with Air India. But this experience today at their office in NY and the efficient help offered by Halina radically chanter my perception of Air Indiaā€™s customer service

I will keep flying Air India in the future, for sure

    • Mathew

That is indeed a good one. I hope we all have a good customer experience like you did. And agents like Halina must be recognized and rewarded for their above and beyond attitude.
