Hi,
I travelled from Santiago,Chile to Bengaluru, India on May 26th 2018. I had two check in baggage’s.
Below is a detailed description of what happened on my journey.
The itinerary was as follows:
Emirates 3736 Santiago de Chile to Sao Paulo
Emirates 262 Sao Paulo to Dubai
Emirates 564 Dubai to Bangalore
At the Chile airport, before checking in my baggages i had checked at the GOL airlines counter (code shared flight) about the baggage allowance. I was told that they allow 2 check in baggage’s weighing 32 kilos each. I had one bag which was close to 31 kilos and the other 33 kilos. I asked how much i needed to pay for excess baggage. They told me that for any excess baggage i had to pay 4 USD as fee and that i need to first get the bags weighed and then come back.
However at the counter , i was allowed to checkin both my bags. I reconfirmed with the executive about the weight. He told me it was OK as it was within the total allowance.
There was a 5 hour transit in Brazil.Just before boarding we were asked to change our boarding passes issued in Santiago, Chile. I was told i need to pay 75 USD each bag for excess baggage. No matter how much i told the executive wouldn’t budge. He said that for my baggage to pass, i need to pay the amount. I wasn’t given my boarding pass. Since it was the last minute i hurriedly converted 150 USD dollars and reached the counter for payment. He sent me back saying the amount wasn’t sufficient in Brazlian reals. I had to run around and convert dollars again. Finally i was given the boarding passes to Dubai and Bengaluru.
When i landed in Bengaluru, i tried to lodge a complaint. None of your team was ready to take a complaint instead they asked me to speak to the baggage counter of EK (airsats) just outside the exit. The team there told me there is no email id to lodge a complaint and the only way is to write on the EK website which am doing.
Mine was an emirates booking. Whether it is emirates operated flight or a code shared flight, you are expected to have uniform rules.
I have reconfirmed with GOL airlnes, they still claim they allow 2 pieces of 32 kilos on Emirates booking!!. Why was it not honoured by EK???
The Emirates website says, on code shared flights. EK will honour the baggage policies of the first carrier.
Am requesting for a complete refund of the total amount i had paid for all that was undergone on this travel.
Also, this complaint has been unattended more than 3 weeks. I will now raise an issue with SERNAC.
