The airline was established in October 1989 and started operations in April 1990 with a charter service between Antalya and Frankfurt. SunExpress was founded as a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and the Lufthansa Group/Condor Flugdienst. In 1995, the Lufthansa Group transferred its SunExpress shares to Condor. All tourist flights operate under a single unit. In February 2007, all Condor shares were retaken by the Lufthansa Group as Condor was acquired by Thomas Cook AG (now Thomas Cook Group).
SunExpress is currently a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and the Lufthansa Group, each owning 50 percent of the airline. With 886 employees the company is the largest employer in Antalya. SunExpress counts 393 employees in Izmir, 299 in Istanbul, 178 in Ankara, 42 in Anatolian cities and 334 in Frankfurt, Germany. The total SunExpress workforce number is 2.132 with other domestic bases.

Sun express overcharged on baggage charging more then a cost of the flight from USA-Ankara and back. They told me one price on the phone, in person day before and on webchat when it can to the flight it was a different price. And they charged me extra for using a debit card without letting me know that I could have paid cash but I wanted a record because they screwed me on baggage charges. Now they closed the case so I can’t reply. Horrible airlines goes to prove cheaper isn’t always better stay away if you can employees are thieves

Sun Express have closed 3 different cases on me! They have no idea of customer service, I had good holiday and then when l arrived back in UK no luggage. Finally got it back five days later (opened) with things missing!! Tried to claim 3 times,cases closed 3 times!! Sent receipts and acknowledged but still no compensation. The worst airline l have ever dealt with, so now l am going to take them to court!
