    I was redirected from the customer relations office to you. If you are not responsible, please forward this request to the appropriate unit.

    We are writing to you to submit our request for compensation with regards to the delayed departure of the Paris-Chengdu flight (CA458) on 20 May, 2017. According to the Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 (Establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights) of 11 February 2004, Article 6(1)(c) and Article 7(1)(c) we are eligible for an 600 EUR individual compensation in cash payment or bank transfer.

    We were boarded to your flight accordingly to the schedule, around 13.10, 20 May. Unfortunately the plane could not leave the airport and we had to board off, due to engine failure. Your company was kind to provide meal and drink at the airport lounge during our prolonged stay. The technicians could repair the engine by evening and we took off to Chengdu around 19.30, with a considerable delay.

    In our understanding the case is subject to EC Regulation 261/2004, Article 6(1)(c). The Paris Charles de Gaulle airport is within the EU, we are EU citizens, eligible for compensation. The delay was well over four hours, actually it exceeded six hours. The engine failure, which was communicated towards us and was the obvious reason for the delay, does not fall into any of the exemption categories. At last and understandably, no alternative routes and tickets were offered seven days prior to our departure.

    Due to our late arrival we had to cancel our first day programme in Chengdu. All we arrived exhausted and could not fully recover to our next day programme. The delay was a very unfortunate turn of events both for your company and for us. Besides this problem we were satisfied with the service and appreciate your company very much. We have no reservations regarding Air China and would be ready travel on its airplanes.

    Please let us know, if you have any further questions. We are also ready to send you all the necessary documents to proceed and facilitate the compensation. We hope we can arrange this issue swift and bilaterally, within the reasonable ramifications.
