Here are three complaints/cautions I have with LATAM in 2018:
1) While in Vilcabamba, Ecuador I booked a one way flight from Cuenca to Quito to intersect my international return flight. Unfortunately I used Expedia.com and they gave only one price. Upon scrutiny they claim of “no information” on checked luggage. I discovered on the LATAM website that my reservation HAD NO CHECKED BAG allowance. I then found it impossible to add/purchase my bag allowance separately OR reserve my seat using my confirmation code. SO UNPROFESSIONAL in this modern day and age.
2) Expedia sells only the “Simple/Basic” LATAM fare equivalent — which is carry on only — and the consumer is not informed of this fact at the time of purchase. A LATAM website flight purchase would have offered the “Plus” flight with one checked bag or a “supreme” with two checked bags and other amenities but they do not bother to offer that through Expedia thus creating a PROBLEM FOR CONSUMER.
3) The 800 number for LATAM customer support for adding a bag is a disaster – so behind the times. The agent you initially reach is not authorized to add a bag. They must submit a request to A DIFFERENT DEPT who has to call you back. If the line is dropped or there is a problem with the quality of the line when that second agent calls you back, they make NO EFFORT AT ALL to call again. This happened twice, starting completely over each time. I spent more than 90-minutes in three different calls with terrible audio trying to add a checked baggage fee of $10 to my reservation…and even with all of that I STILL HAVE NONE!
This airline is not operating at international standards for 2018.
