  • Majid Mohtarami

Distinguished management of the Qatari Airlines
    To: International Air Transport Association
    With greetings,
With due respect I would like to inform you that Yours Truly, Majid Mohtarami, holder of passport No. Z2581580 was informed of my motherā€™s demise on Monday, 14th January 2018. Therefore, I managed to obtain urgent air ticket for travelling to Iran at the earliest possible time so that I could attend my motherā€™s funeral. My ticket Number was ETKT 157498422254-1. However, on flight QR639 from Dhaka to Doha dated January 15th 2018 I faced the following problem:
When the flight attendant came to take my order for food I ordered rice and fish from the menu. However, once I opened the food package I realized there was only rice in it and no fish. Thinking that a mistake was made I turned on the light above my head asking for the flight attendant. I even waited for 15 minutes but nobody came. I did the same for three or four times but again there was no attendant. Finally, after 45 minutes one flight attendant came to me and said, angrily and disrespectfully, ā€œwhat is wrong with you and why do you keep buzzing?ā€
I explained to her it must have been a mistake and that I ordered fish but once again she said with a very rude tone: ā€œthis is all we have. You can throw it away if you donā€™t want itā€!!
Since this was the first time I had such an experience in any airline and I was so offended, I entered into an argument with her. Then came the head of the flight attendants. I was expecting him to solve my problem but he too ridiculed me and mockingly asked me to shut up and sit! So I had no choice but to film and photograph the scene using my phone and told them I would sue them at Doha airport.
After they realized I have films and photos they seemingly changed their attitude and invited me to calm down. Then they adopted a friendly tone with me and took me to the part where there was food and other stuff. Then they encouraged me to drink wine in order to calm down and changed my food package. However, when we arrived at the airport they prevented me from exiting the plane until the airport police arrived and entered the airplane. They treated me very disrespectfully and used bad words against me. They also arrested me and confiscated my mobile phone. They kept me in custody for 24 hours. Then they brought me back to the airport where they forced me to pay 500 Qatari Rials. I should also mention that they denied me the right or opportunity to defend myself or have a lawyer.
I ultimately realized that all this has been the result of the false reports given by the airplane crew to the police. Actually they had lied and said that I started the quarrel because I was drunk!
Then I was told at the airport that I was blacklisted and that I couldnā€™t continue my journey with Qatari Airlines.
Since I had to make to my motherā€™s funeral and since I had no access to my phone and no money left, it was very difficult for me to find a way to contact my family. I finally did it and they could get a ticket for me with Kuwaiti Airlines. because there was no flight from Kuwait to the city of Shiraz (my hometown) I had to go from Doha to Kuwait, and from there to Tehran and finally to Shiraz!
This matter has cost me so much pain and trouble, both financially and emotionally. Worst of all, it prevented me from attending my motherā€™s funeral.
Therefore, I would like to request Qatar Airways as the worldā€™s largest and top airlines to examine the issue and give back to me what was rightfully mine so that such things will not happen to any other passenger.

    Thanks.

Meanwhile, more than one year have passed since I filed a complaint. So far no organ has been responsible for answering.
I would also like to remind you that my cell phone along with all my personal info have remained confiscated by the Qatari Airlines without any legal authority.
So I appeal to distinguished management of the Qatari Airlines.
I wish that this organization, in view of the great responsibility that it has, will re-apply to my request.
I should remind if I couldnā€™t get any result Iā€™ll submit my compliment to International Civil Aviation organization.
Thanks in advance to your compassionate cooperation.

    Sincerely

  • Nope Mohammad

    Hello,

My maternal grandfather was the CAAB director till his retirement in 1983. Normally I would ask him this question but he died in 1997, when i was 7 years old. I have 2 interrelated questions:
    1) I was wondering as to when the IATA first started recognizing air travel in Bangladesh, officially?
    2) When was the IATA office first established in Dhaka?

    gratefully
    Raiyan

    Dear Sir/ Madam,

My Company Travel House Limited based in Dhaka, Bangladesh was once a member of IATA and we closed the account in 2011. Our IAT membership number was HS-42302105. While closing the membership we paid all IATA dues and was released successfully, however, our Bankers International Finance Investment and Commerce Bank Limited (IFIC BANK) had not retired the Bank guarantee due to oversight on behalf of Travel House as well as Bank officials . We now need a letter or email from iata.org that Travel House doe not owe iata.org any money after the termination of the membership. I would appreciate your assistance on this matter.

    Thanking you ,

    Yours sincerely
