Hello Ukraine International Airline authorities,
Greetings and I wish you well.
I am writing to draw your attention to huge inconvenience, stress and monetary loss your representatives at the Dubai Airport caused us. My demand here on is to be compensated for the same as it was caused by your airline representative, Anvar Umaraliev in Dubai.
My colleague Jason Monserrate and I were traveling from Mumbai to Dubai and the leg Dubai to Ukraine (Kyiv) was on Ukrainian Airlines. Flight on 16th Dec (Dubai date and timeline). Another team member Yashwardhan Soni was already in Dubai, and would join us from Dubai to Kyiv. We had confirmed return tickets exiting Ukraine and valid Visas for our journey.
Jason and I travelled Air Vistara from Mumbai to Dubai, and as such used the Marabah service in Dubai to transfer our luggage to Ukraine Airlines, and the Marabah counter-staff also issued both our boarding passes after validating our Visas, covid test, insurance, return tickets etc. Attached the boarding pass too. Jason had his return flight along with Yashwardhan on Air Arabia back to India, while I had an onward to Portugal, having a resident card as Iām married to a Portugal citizen.
Hereās where the Ukrainian airline representatives Anvar starts giving us a hard time. While Jason and I were issued our boarding passes, Anwar at the check-in counter in Dubai begins putting Yashwardhan through terrible inconvenience. He refused to issue a boarding pass to Yashwardhan as he said Yashwardhanās flight from Dubai to Kyiv was on Ukrainian airline and it is a mandatory law at Dubai airport that the return flight must also be on the Ukrainian flight!!! Jason and I mind you, already have boarding passes issued, though our exit flights were different, Air Arabia to India. He continued to insist and traumatize us with a law which only he seemed to know of. I checked with all people at the Marabah counter, DNATA (Dubai services) on this in the meanwhile as I was inside the airport. All of them claimed no such law, except dear Mr. Anvar. We asked him to show us the mandatory guideline, and he refused say, I am the representative of the airline, it is my final decision and basically he insisted we take his word, or we could not fly out. He continued to harass us, and we showed him Jasonā boarding pass which was just issued— for Dubai to Kyiv. He demanded that Jasonā and my ticket also to be changed, making a change in the system where the boarding gate blocked our entry into the flight leaving a comment the airline authority would come and check our tickets. He absolutely refused to show us the law, there was nothing on your website or any website, or any other person in Dubai flight services who could confirm this law.
I am an absolute law abiding citizen, and if it is law, if it was my mistake of doing a booking without checking same, I would change the ticket, no questions asked. None of the booking websites ever feature this law, including your website. At the time of booking, we chose the best return flights, if there was a good Ukrainian flight option, available at a good price, I would have been most glad for the sake of my own pocket expenses to choose that flight. It was not available, and neither was there a law prompting to book a return on the same flight!
I have every valid document required, and Anwar was being difficult and maybe even egoistic about it. We finally booked a return ticket, paying treacherous amounts for last minute booking, and changing the tickets for Jason and Yashwardhan. He said he would validate my Resident card for Portugal, which he did and only then allowed me to board the flight.
After we book the Ukrainian airline flight, he has the audacity to tell us, I donāt care if you change the flight later, for now, I only need to see a Ukrainian return. You can change it later, and it will be fine. What is that supposed to be! To satisfy some unseen law, or his ego or simply to make more money for this airline, I do not know. But I now am faced with extra panic and stress at the airport to book new tickets from Kyiv to Dubai, and change Dubai to Goa (India)ā¦ only because one man, Anvar says he is the final authority. No written law ever shown to us.
I as a customer, am in my rights to demand an explanation, a refund for all the extra expenses and an apology for myself and my team to be put through such harassment on a baseless unseen law.
Here are my costs incurred to book a flight from Kyiv to Dubai and the onward change from Dubai to Goa (India).
I would need the explanation to all of this, the refund for all my additional expenses (all below in Indian Rupees), and a personal apology from Anvar Umaraliev for being a complete harasser in this whole situation.
