I am in Trinidad at present, I have a flight booked for the 20th September to return to England, is it possible to change my flight to an earlier flight as my current time is 17.00. I would like to leave in the morning with my daughter. If it is possible could you instruct me as to what steps i need to take, and what is so the cost would be.
    Thank you

    Re case ref.18739760

I am extremely dissatisfied with the treatment meted out to me and with the manner in which my complaint and claim was summarily dismissed.
My husband Alvin Fitzpatrick and I travelled to London on 14th Dec 2018 with bookings to return on 20th Dec 2018.We travelled as usual business class at a cost of almost 4000 pounds each. When we boarded at Piarco ,we were made to feel rather special when the purser in Business class sought us out by our names to invite us to indicate whether there was anything further that you could do to make our flight more comfortable.
On 20th Dec along with thousands of other passengers we suffered the trauma and the inconvenience of the shutdown of Gatwick Airport. For some inexplicable reason the announcement of the cancellation of our return flight was delayed until almost 530 pm by which time there were long queues at the service desks in the premier lounge where we had been seated since about 830 am. We were advised to try the Premier check in desk for rebookings. We followed crowds of equally bewildered passengers through areas of the airport not usually seen by us with no assistance from airport or airline officials and eventually managed to get back to the Premier Check In desk where a long line of persons was ahead of us.
My husband and are both in the legal profession. We appreiated that the cancellation of all flights and the closure of the airspace was well beyond the control of the airline. We were therefore surprised but encouraged to see BA representatives handing out forms informing us or our rights and notifying us that we should proceed to make arrangements for accommodation and new flights etc.
We were actively encouraged to leave the long queues and to try to make arrangements from outside whether online or otherwise . While we were determined to stay even in the face of that advice we decided we had to leave when the agent announced that there had only just then been a worldwide shutdown of all of your systems.
Perhaps because of our professional training we specifically asked your agent before leaving whether it was open to us to book with any other airline and via any route to get home and we were assured that in the circumstances we were entitled to do so.
Desperate to get home for family functions including one which we were hosting on Chrismas Eve ,we instructed or agent to put us on the next available flight out of London. At that time we could not be sure of when flight operations would resume at Gatwick. Our travel agent booked us on flights via Miami .My husband and I have always avoided the stress of 2 long flights especially in his case since his heart surgery about 15 years ago. When the agent informed us on 21st Dec that we could actually get seats on the BA flight back home on 21st there was no hesitation ..we asked her to rebook us .
We agreed to pay a cancellation fee for the flights via Miami and when she informed us that the club class fare required a further and significant payment of almost 1600 pounds each ,bearing in mind the representation that we should make any arrangements to travel out of London and that we would be covered we asked her to proceed.
The seats were clearly available in club class because we got them. Given all of the circumstances including your agent’s representation on 20th ,the fact that we ended up on our airline of choice in the class of choice, your refusal to refund the additional monies we willingly forked out is not only disappointing , it demonstrates a disregard for our custom and our loyalty, my executive club membership obviously means nothing.
BA provides the only direct service to London from Trinnidad but we do have options out of Tobago which we will consider for future travel.
I trust that you will reconsider the claim but in any case wish to put you on notice that I am considering other legal options .
